PIONEER D'ARTANIAN 088 × PIONEER STAR DOUBLE

A D'Artanian son paired to a double granddaughter of Star Boy — Zwols National blood onto the Miss Maurice nest

THE PAIRING

A straightforward and strong cross: a direct son of D'Artanian on one side, a hen who is a double granddaughter of Star Boy on the other. Neither family appears anywhere in the other's pedigree, so every youngster is a clean outcross of the two most productive lines in the loft.

What makes the hen unusual is that she is bred Star Boy on Star Boy — her sire is a brother to Miss Maurice, her dam a sister to Miss Maurice. She is roughly 25% inbred to that nest, which is exactly why she is worth crossing to unrelated Zwols blood.

The Cock — GB19B31088 "Pioneer D'Artanian 088"

Blue · Stock Cock · Frans Zwols, bred by Zwols Pigeons

A direct son of D'Artanian (NL07-1230197) — 13 × 1st at National, Amal and Combine level, including 1st against 19,476 birds, 3 × 1st NFC, 3 × 1st BICC, 1st BBC, 2 × 1st Amal up to 5,500 birds and 4 × 1st Combine.

His dam is Sweet Princess (NL08-2134593) — dam to 6th, 2 × 11th, 12th, 14th and 24th in races between 5,552 and 19,937 birds, and granddam of many winners including 1st National Agen and 55th International against 22,000 birds, plus 1st Open NFC St Philbert.

Sweet Princess is out of 778, one of The 3 Musketeers — a top racer who won 3 × 2nd from fields of 6,926 up to 14,940 birds — and Francien, dam and granddam to 3 × 1st over 10,000 birds and 3 × 1st over 2,000 birds.

In short: D'Artanian on top of the Musketeer line — as close to the Zwols core as a cock gets.

The Hen — IHU24-053771 "Pioneer Star Double"

Blue Pied Hen · Stock · Maurice O'Donnell bloodlines, bred by M O'Donnell

A double granddaughter of Star Boy: sired by IHU20-068511, a brother to Miss Maurice, out of IHU20-068436, a sister to Miss Maurice.

Star Boy (B16-6037050) is one of the best One Loft breeding cocks in the world — sire of Miss Maurice, Knockout Winner of the Million Dollar Race South Africa 2020 for over $47,500, and grandsire of Miss Debbie, 1st Pattaya International OLR. His dam is a sister to 14th National Barcelona and the mother of 15th National Barcelona and 51st National Narbonne.

In short: a concentrated Star Boy hen — she does not need to have raced, she needs to pass the nest on, and that is what she is bred to do.

FOUNDATION ANCESTORS

A complete outcross with zero shared ancestry. One parent is a first-generation son of a National-level breeding cock; the other is a hen deliberately concentrated on a world-class One Loft breeder. Crossing a heavily linebred bird to unrelated proven blood is the standard route to vigour, and it gives the youngsters two distinct capabilities — the Zwols family's ability to score at National distance, and the Star Boy family's record in One Loft finals.

SUMMARY

Pair 06: D'Artanian's son on a double granddaughter of Star Boy. Sweet Princess and the Musketeer line behind one, Miss Maurice's own nest behind the other, and nothing shared between them. Five youngsters on record.
